Jonathan Bishop
Chief Executive Officer, Cornerstone Academy Trust
Jonathan Bishop is the Chief Executive Officer of Cornerstone Academy Trust, leading seven primary schools across Devon: Broadclyst, Westclyst, Monkerton, Yeo Valley, Countess Wear, Clyst Heath and Marpool. He also serves as Strategic Lead for the Cornerstone English Hub, supporting schools across the South West to strengthen early reading and literacy provision.
Cornerstone operates as One School on Seven Campuses, driven by a vision for innovative, collaborative and digitally rich learning. Under Jonathan’s leadership, every pupil and member of staff is equipped with a Microsoft Surface device, connected through a Microsoft Teams-based platform that enables personalised, project-based learning across all sites. All Cornerstone schools are recognised as Microsoft Showcase Schools and were previously designated as DfE EdTech Demonstrators.
Jonathan has led significant school improvement initiatives, opened two Free Schools and currently leads a reading project within a DfE Priority Area. He works widely across the sector to support schools and trusts in raising standards and embedding evidence-informed practice, with a strong belief in partnership and system leadership to improve outcomes for all children.
Jonathan began his career at Broadclyst Primary School, progressing from class teacher to Headteacher in 2010. There, he pioneered media-rich classrooms and a creative, globally connected curriculum. He is particularly proud of the Global Enterprise Challenge, which has connected schools in over 20 countries to foster innovation and international collaboration.
He is deeply committed to developing teachers and leaders through ITT and ECT programmes, partnerships with Teaching School Hubs, and leadership of English, Behaviour, Computing and Science Hubs. More recently, he established a Digital Skills and AI Hub, working with local trusts to strengthen digital capability and support schools across the region.
Beyond his Trust role, Jonathan works with Heatree Activity Centre and Farms for City Children, helping young people broaden their horizons through outdoor learning and enrichment.
